I had originally worked with Sharon when she was a coordinator at the Baylor Medical Center at Irving and became aware of her work ethic, knowledge base and quality improvement activities. In my role as the Baylor Health Care System Director for Health Care Improvement, I worked with Sharon as a direct report from July 2006 until my retirement in July of 2008.

Sharon was originally hired as the Quality Performance Improvement Consultant for Baylor Health Care System with her major focus on clinical core measures (Heart Failure, Acute Myocardial Infarction, and Pneumonia and Surgical Care Improvement Project) abstraction guideline interpretation, clinical staff educational materials development, and coordination of consistent data collection.  In her role, her expertise assisted clinical staff in understanding the importance of documenting evidence based clinical interventions and the standardized documentation of those measures.  Working with teams to improve their processes and developing forms contributed to the overall improvement in documentation of these clinical interventions.

Sharon was instrumental in implementing the Hospital Outpatient Performance System (HOPS) for the Baylor Health Care System hospitals in 2007, outlining standard guidelines for abstractions, hiring and training staff, working with teams from each facility, serving as a resource person for questions and issues.

As the department developed and grew, Sharon assisted in the developing of a standardized orientation program for training new staff, conducted Inter-Rater Reliability audits and served as a reviewer for new physician orders sets to assure compliance with evidence based practice related to core measures.

Sharon was an energetic, engaged employee with considerable expertise that contributed to core measure improvements.  She worked independently and could be depended upon to complete a task assigned to her as well as identify areas of focus for improvement.  It was a pleasure to work with her and recommend her for your consideration.

I have known Sharon Smith, RN for several years in a professional capacity.  I would recommend her without hesitation for any position or endeavor she chose to pursue. Sharon is well organized, efficient, extremely competent and reliable and builds excellent rapport with the people she is working with. Her communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent. I have seen her coordinate projects involving numerous people and work collaboratively while guiding all through a project quickly and effectively.  She has worked on projects and teams to problem solve and improve performance in many areas of patient care, education, and clinical data abstraction, collection and measurement. Sharon’s sensitivity, diligence, honesty, energy, and sense of humor make working with her a pleasurable experience. Sharon uses coaching skills aimed at performance improvement which have measurably improved our healthcare system’s overall performance scores.  In summary, I highly recommend Sharon for any position or endeavor she may seek to pursue and consider her an excellent asset for any organization in whatever capacity or role she takes on.
